Dr Khong Lamvichit DC March 1, 2024 3 mins
Did you know that chiropractors can assist with many health condition injuries? They are experts at making people feel better. Some common conditions that chiropractic care can help with and how it can make a difference in your well-being.

 1. Back Pain: Chiropractors are skilled at relieving back pain, which can happen due to poor posture, heavy backpacks, or sports activities. They use special techniques to align the spine and reduce discomfort.
 2. Neck Pain: If you spend too much time hunched over a computer or looking down at your phone, you may experience neck pain. Chiropractors can provide adjustments to improve neck mobility and reduce pain.
 3. Headaches: Some headaches are caused by tension or misalignment in the neck and spine. Chiropractic adjustments can relieve tension, potentially reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches.
 4. Sports Injuries: Chiropractors work with athletes to prevent and treat injuries. They can help with sprained ankles, twisted knees, and other sports-related issues, promoting faster recovery and enhancing performance.
 5. Joint Problems: Stiff and achy joints can make it difficult to move freely. Chiropractors use gentle techniques to improve joint function, alleviate discomfort, and enhance mobility.
 6. Posture Issues: Poor posture can lead to various health problems. Chiropractors can guide you in correcting your posture and relieving strain on your back, neck, and shoulders.
 7. Pregnancy Discomfort: Pregnant women often experience back pain and discomfort. Chiropractors can provide safe and effective treatments to alleviate these symptoms and promote a healthier pregnancy.

<![CDATA[How Does Chiropractic Treatments Work?]]>Wed, 28 Jun 2023 19:06:00 GMThttps://midwestsportandspine.com/blog/how-does-chiropractic-treatments-workUnderstanding How Chiropractic Treatments Work for Optimal Health Introduction
Dr Khong Lamvichit June 28, 2023 5mins

Chiropractic treatments give a mechanical approach to healthcare, focusing on the relationship between the body's structure and its ability to function properly. I'm aiming to shed light on the mechanics of chiropractic treatments and how they work to promote overall wellness and alleviate various injuries.

At the core of chiropractic treatments is the research and understanding that the body has the natural ability to heal itself. Chiropractors do employ non-invasive techniques, primarily spinal adjustments, but mainly to restore proper mechanics and mobility to the musculoskeletal system. These adjustments involve gentle joint manipulations given to specific areas of the spine, shoulders, and/or hips targeting areas known as "restrictions".

"Restrictions" can occur due to various factors such as poor posture, physical trauma, or repetitive stress. When the joint is restricted, it can prevent proper functioning of the nervous system, which communicates between the muscles and the brain. Correcting the restrictions (jammed up joints) chiropractors aim to help nervous system function, letting the body heal and function better.

During a chiropractic session, the chiropractor carefully evaluates the patient's medical history, performs a thorough physical examination, and may use diagnostic imaging if necessary. This assessment helps the chiropractor identify areas of concern and develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to the patient's needs.

Chiropractic adjustments involve performing by hand or instrument-assisted techniques to apply controlled force to the affected area of the injured joints. These adjustments restore proper alignment, relieve pressure on surrounding nerves, and increase joint mobility.

By doing so, chiropractic treatments can help alleviate a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, headaches, TMJ problems, and even improve overall wellness.

Chiropractic treatments work by addressing spinal misalignments, enhancing nervous system function, and supporting the body's natural healing abilities. Through gentle adjustments, chiropractors aim to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and promote a good well-being for their patients. Consider a qualified chiropractor in Chicago to experience the best benefits of chiropractic care peronally.

<![CDATA[Should I See A Chiropractor Or Physical Therapist?]]>Wed, 22 Mar 2023 22:40:10 GMThttps://midwestsportandspine.com/blog/should-i-see-a-chiropractor-or-physical-therapist

SPOILER ALERT...BOTH!

By Dr Khong Lamvichit March 22, 2023 5 mins
First off, let’s get the versus question out of the way. Both medical professionals are essentially synonymous, the main difference is specialization and physician status in some states.

If you're dealing with pain or discomfort in your muscles, joints, or spine, you may be wondering whether you should see a chiropractor or a physical therapist. While both professionals can help to alleviate pain and improve function, there are some key differences between the two that can help you determine which one is right for you.

What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly those affecting the joints in your arms, legs, and spine. Chiropractors use many techniques, including spinal manipulation and mobilization, to restore proper movement of the spine and improve strength with exercise routines for the young and aging populations.

What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy, on the other hand, is a healthcare specialty that focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system. Physical therapists use a variety of techniques, including exercise, stretching, and manual therapy, to help patients improve strength, flexibility, and mobility, and reduce pain.

Key differences between chiropractors and physical therapists

Approach: Chiropractors tend to focus on the spinal mobility and the correction of joint restrictions that may be causing pain or dysfunction from your muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Physical therapists focus more on movement and function for daily life, working to improve strength, flexibility, and mobility through exercise and other therapies.

Techniques: Chiropractors typically use joint adjustments or mobilization techniques to restore all joint function. Physical therapists may use a variety of techniques, including exercise, stretching, and manual therapy, to help patients improve function and reduce pain.

Education: Chiropractors undergo extensive medical education and training in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders and pathological conditions. Physical therapists also undergo extensive education and training, but their focus is broad, encompassing a range of conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system.

Which one is right for you? All in all, you’re going to get a great professional that is able to help your body recover if you’re looking not to use drugs. You choose.

GET LOW GET LOW

By Dr Khong Lamvichit March 6, 2023 5 mins
Injuries can be a significant setback to any fitness journey, whether you are an athlete, a fitness enthusiast, or someone who enjoys working out regularly. Fortunately, there are several exercises you can do to help prevent injuries and keep your body strong and healthy. Here are five of the best exercises to prevent injury:
 1. Squats Squats are a fundamental exercise that targets the lower body, including the quads, glutes, and hamstrings. They help build lower body strength, which can help prevent injuries in the knees, hips, and ankles. Proper squat form is crucial, so start with bodyweight squats and progress to weighted squats as your strength improves.
 2. Planks Planks are an excellent exercise for building core strength and stability, which can help prevent injuries in the lower back and hips. They engage the entire core, including the rectus abdominis, obliques, and transverse abdominis. To perform a plank, start in a push-up position with your arms straight and hands shoulder-width apart. Hold your body in a straight line from head to heels, engaging your core and squeezing your glutes. Hold for as long as you can, aiming for at least 30 seconds.
 3. Lunges Like squats, lunges are a lower body exercise that helps build strength in the legs and glutes. They can also improve balance and stability, which can prevent injuries in the knees and ankles. To perform a lunge, step forward with one foot, bending both knees to lower your body towards the ground. Keep your front knee over your ankle and your back knee just above the ground. Push back up to the starting position and repeat on the other side.
 4. Push-Ups Push-ups are a classic exercise that targets the chest, shoulders, and triceps. They help build upper body strength, which can prevent injuries in the shoulders and upper back. Proper form is essential for push-ups, so start with modified push-ups on your knees and progress to full push-ups as your strength improves.
 5. Deadlifts Deadlifts are a compound exercise that targets several muscle groups, including the hamstrings, glutes, lower back, and core. They help build total body strength and improve posture, which can prevent injuries in the back and hips. Deadlifts can be performed with a barbell, dumbbells, or kettlebells, and proper form is crucial to prevent injury. Start with light weights and focus on proper form before increasing weight.
In addition to these exercises, it's important to incorporate stretching and mobility work into your fitness routine. This can help improve flexibility and prevent injuries in the joints and muscles. Consider incorporating exercises like yoga, Pilates, or foam rolling into your routine.
Remember to listen to your body and adjust your workouts as needed. If you experience pain or discomfort during any exercise, stop immediately and consult a medical professional. By incorporating these exercises into your routine and taking a holistic approach to fitness, you can help prevent injuries and keep your body healthy and strong.

<![CDATA[Chiropractors: Complementing Medical Doctors in Treating Patients]]>Tue, 31 Jan 2023 23:07:54 GMThttps://midwestsportandspine.com/blog/chiropractors-complementing-medical-doctors-in-treating-patients

Chiropractors and Medical Doctors Are Joining Forces!

By Dr Khong Lamvichit January 31, 2023 5 mins
Chiropractic care is a form of alternative medicine that focuses on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those of the spine. In recent years, chiropractors have increasingly been recognized as important complements to medical doctors in treating patients. This is due to several key factors that make chiropractic care a valuable addition to traditional medical treatment.

One of the primary benefits of chiropractic care is its focus on manual manipulation of the spine and other joints. This approach to treatment has been shown to be effective in reducing pain and improving range of motion, particularly for conditions such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches. By treating the root cause of pain and discomfort, chiropractors are able to provide their patients with long-lasting relief that can help improve their overall quality of life.

Another advantage of chiropractic care is its focus on the importance of proper alignment and posture. Chiropractors are trained to assess and correct imbalances in the musculoskeletal system, which can help prevent further injury and promote overall health and wellness. This holistic approach to care is particularly beneficial for patients who suffer from chronic pain and other ongoing health conditions, as it helps to address the underlying causes of their symptoms and promotes healing from within.

Chiropractors are also trained to offer a variety of other therapeutic treatments and techniques, such as massage, exercise therapy, and rehabilitation. These complementary therapies are designed to work together with manual manipulation to improve the patient's overall health and wellbeing. By providing a range of treatments and techniques, chiropractors are able to tailor their approach to the individual needs and preferences of each patient, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

The combination of manual manipulation and complementary therapies offered by chiropractors also makes them valuable complements to medical doctors in the treatment of patients with multiple health conditions. For example, many patients with conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis, and chronic fatigue syndrome find that chiropractic care helps to manage their pain and improve their overall quality of life. This can help to reduce the need for prescription pain medications and other forms of medical treatment, and can also improve the patient's ability to manage their symptoms on their own.

Finally, chiropractors are often able to offer a more personalized approach to care than medical doctors. This is due to the relatively small size of most chiropractic practices, which allows chiropractors to build long-term relationships with their patients and get to know them on a more personal level. This can be especially beneficial for patients who suffer from chronic conditions, as it allows them to feel more comfortable and confident in their care and more likely to stick to their treatment plan.

In conclusion, chiropractors are a valuable complement to medical doctors in treating patients. With their focus on manual manipulation and complementary therapies, chiropractors are able to provide a holistic approach to care that can help address the root cause of pain and improve overall health and wellness. By offering a range of treatments and techniques and taking a personalized approach to care, chiropractors are helping to fill a critical gap in the medical system and provide their patients with the care they need to lead healthy, happy lives.

Surgeons Need Care Too!

By Dr Khong Lamvichit July 21, 2022 5 mins

Hi doctors,

I get it, this is not your typical blog. It's if I'm writing a letter specifically for you because why? You know why, your back is screaming and you have to go do surgeries, carry a patient, or heaven forbid, stand all flippin day because you need to finish your notes. Yea, I get it, but guess what you're not alone.

All those statistics and research about billions of dollars of healthcare spent on back pain is true, but what about specifically the medical professionals that take care of those people. What about us?! Is there any research found about the doctors, nurses, therapists, etc. that needs help from time to time? Does anyone know the difference between a back disc injury from a painful back sprain?! I mean finding someone who can figure out the injury, let alone fixing the back pain injury, can be a struggle at times. It's even more challenging because you're reading this article and your back is stiff as a frozen zucchini (please attempt to break one).

Thankfully I figured out how to defrost that "zucchini". The magic secret, wait for it..., squeeze your butt. Obviously there's more to it, but no really! Squeeze your ass, your sacroiliac joints will thank you. Squeeze while you're walking, clench while you're standing still, and have fun squeezing while you're sitting. This is a game changer and if you're not satisfied squeeze some more as your back pain from standing all unholy hours of the day becomes less.

That's it! How hard is it to squeeze your glutes on any given day? If you don't know how to squeeze, come into the office and we'll go through the sports therapy rehab process to start you off on the right steps. Now go off into the sunset and activate those glutes. Your low back pain will be gone in a few days and appreciate you for it.

(Disclosure: Don't squeeze with your hands, that just looks silly)
