The WOD-FatherBy Dr. Khong Lamvichit on 8 August 2016 For those who do not know, Greg Glassman, an Entrepreneur, Cyclist, Gymnast, and most well-known for being the "WOD-Father" who otherwise is known as the founder of Crossfit and going on for 20 years. Yes I know, we all have our opinions on "Crossfit". As a matter of fact, you might have thoughts swirling around as you read this now. Let's all take a crack at what comes to mind: 1) injuries? 2) more injuries? 3) or I just made an appointment to go see Dr. Khong afterwards? Okay I'm only kidding; however the points can't be too far off. Injuries not all stemming from crossfit Let's "clear the air" here, Crossfit does have injuries! Are you happy now I said it, but wait there's more!
I cannot be the only one that hears actor Wilford Brimley in my head every time I hear someone say "the diabetes", but I digress. You're missing the key points Greg Glassman brings up key points in the Crossfit Journal about building functional movement patterns and preventing chronic disease via fitness; although some movement patterns could still be improved and utilized with Crossfit, he couldn't be more accurate with prevention of chronic disease. He states "The Crossfit stimulus, can give you a pass on chronic disease". Come again? "The Crossfit stimulus, can give you a pass on chronic disease". Well tell me more Greg! For instance, tell me 3 things how crossfit can teach me to avoid chronic disease. As stated by Greg Glassman:
With a community so obsessed with hitting goals and the Paleo Diet nutrition, this is exactly the preventative lifestyle medical professionals promote to their patients. Yes anyone could go anywhere and do this; however Crossfit does a phenomenal job stimulating minds to keep pushing athletes with workouts, coaches, and the community. Healthy Goals and Healthy Gains So yes, Crossfit does have injuries, but those injuries are earned from hard work in the gym. When any athlete gets injured, they're expected to get back to action when they're able. I likened it to battle wounds really. You have a mission and every now and then you get some damage, but once you get that patched up you go right back in and complete your mission. Every WOD (Workout of the Day in case you didn't know by now) is a battle with each own individual and every inch is worked for. These healthy goals or gains are good reasons to Crossfit and move better in my book. References:
