Photo by National Cancer Institute on Unsplash Surgeons Need Care Too!By Dr Khong Lamvichit July 21, 2022 5 mins Hi doctors, I get it, this is not your typical blog. It's if I'm writing a letter specifically for you because why? You know why, your back is screaming and you have to go do surgeries, carry a patient, or heaven forbid, stand all flippin day because you need to finish your notes. Yea, I get it, but guess what you're not alone. All those statistics and research about billions of dollars of healthcare spent on back pain is true, but what about specifically the medical professionals that take care of those people. What about us?! Is there any research found about the doctors, nurses, therapists, etc. that needs help from time to time? Does anyone know the difference between a back disc injury from a painful back sprain?! I mean finding someone who can figure out the injury, let alone fixing the back pain injury, can be a struggle at times. It's even more challenging because you're reading this article and your back is stiff as a frozen zucchini (please attempt to break one). Thankfully I figured out how to defrost that "zucchini". The magic secret, wait for it..., squeeze your butt. Obviously there's more to it, but no really! Squeeze your ass, your sacroiliac joints will thank you. Squeeze while you're walking, clench while you're standing still, and have fun squeezing while you're sitting. This is a game changer and if you're not satisfied squeeze some more as your back pain from standing all unholy hours of the day becomes less. That's it! How hard is it to squeeze your glutes on any given day? If you don't know how to squeeze, come into the office and we'll go through the sports therapy rehab process to start you off on the right steps. Now go off into the sunset and activate those glutes. Your low back pain will be gone in a few days and appreciate you for it. (Disclosure: Don't squeeze with your hands, that just looks silly)
How to Get Stronger...Quicker!By Dr Khong Lamvichit May 12, 2022 5 mins Many people have been to a #PlanetFitness before. I get it, it's cheap and easy to hop on a treadmill. Hey, they even give away free pizza as a perk. It's hard to compete with that! But if you've been going to your Planet Fitness for a while, can you truly say you can see dramatic results in your strength? Even if you're doing more than just the treadmill the typical equipment found in a big box gym can't always help you reach your fitness goals. Here's a goal for you, do 5 sets of 8 of pike pushups. Wait, you're telling me the that's too much? Why would it be too much (rhetorical question)? You're looking to bench press your way to a stronger self or maybe squat cars to get those tree trunk legs. Let me tell you something, in the words of Ido Portal it's how you move bro! Your workouts are sh*t if you eat sh*t, so take the sh*t out of your workouts. Learn how to dance, brazilian jiu jitsu, or even parkour. Don't push sh*t because that doesn't mean sh*t. Excuse the sh*tty language. Hey it's better to have a gym membership and have a basic routine than to not have any routine at all. But when people ask me how to get stronger quicker, my answer is always natural movement (preferably learning with my teach Roye Gold)! With #naturalmovement workouts in Chicago, you're working with your own body weight and getting those tendons stronger faster to avoid pain in simple everyday movements. You could start your new routine here at Ihatebigboxgyms.com. Sorry they don't offer pizza, only strong results.
Injury Rehab in River North, ChicagoBy Dr Khong Lamvichit Apr 14, 2022 5 mins When you're in pain, what do you do? Many people don't do anything for their pain and just hope it will go away soon. While sometimes it does go away, it ALWAYS comes back. Remember that time when you fell down playing basketball and heard 3 loud pops while falling to the ground? No! That's what happened to me during a fun-filled weekend trip as a young basketball player. I was going for an easy layup shot and sure enough my friend attempted to block the shot and his foot was left under mine, long story long, I missed the shot and laid on the ground for a good 10-15 mins. Initially I iced the ankle but what was more remarkable was walking. I tightened up my shoe laces then began walking. The pain started to settle and the swelling got smaller. I began to perform some pumping ankle movements and loosened the stiffness even more. Before you know it, I was walking 80% better. MOVEMENT IS KEY! No matter where you're feeling pain, there is a treatment out there or an exercise that can help you become pain free. Here at Midwest Sport + Spine, we offer a variety of services such as chiropractic adjustments, active release, dry needling, therapeutic ultrasound and physical therapy to help with pain management. What is Active Release Therapy?By Dr Khong Lamvichit September 14, 2021 5 mins We know you're living with constant pain AND we know that with our help you don't need to. Which of the issues below are you dealing with?
These are just a few issues that people come into our office with daily and Active Release Therapy can help with all of them. Active Release Therapy (ART) can be used to treat any soft tissue, muscle and tendon injuries. This technique is a non-invasive movement-based manual therapy that treats injuries, restores proper function + relieves pain. What Will Happen During an ART Session? The Doctor will use their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The area is then treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. Come into the office and see for yourself! Click here to make your appointment. See you soon, cheers.
